Exceptional vintages
rated by Robert Parker

"Savvy consumers should stock up on this wine, as it is both sensational and realistically priced. Once one of the Médoc's most mediocre crus classés, this property began its renaissance around 2000, reaching full cruising speed in 2001, and owner Bernard Magrez continues to capitalize on this success. A blend of almost equal parts Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, complemented by small quantities of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, the inky/blue/purple-colored 2005 reveals a magnificent nose of graphite, flowers, crème de cassis, incense and a touch of new wood. Full-bodied, with lively acidity, silky tannins and remarkable definition and freshness, this sensational wine is the sleeper of the vintage, and should reach its peak in 8-10 years. Expected maturity: 2015-2030.

"Probably the best La Tour Carnet since 2001, the 2010 reveals magnificent ripeness, a dense ruby/purple color, notes of licorice, camphor and a hint of toast, as well as a profusion of black fruits such as cassis and blueberry. It presents itself with a medium- to full-bodied body, attractively soft tannins, good acidity, excellent component definition and a full, remarkably long finish. This wine could close up somewhat due to moderate tannins, but it seems relatively approachable despite the 2010 vintage. Expected maturity: 2018-2035. Another spectacular achievement from proprietor Bernard Magrez, this Haut-Médoc was harvested very late in 2010. The final blend is 60% Merlot, 34% Cabernet Sauvignon, complemented by a small proportion of Cabernet Franc and 1% Petit Verdot."

"Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2016 La Tour Carnet presents an earthy nose with notes of tobacco and undergrowth, over a core of warm plums, kirsch and tea. The medium-bodied palate is fresh, elegant, juicy and supple, with a tasty finish."
Lisa Perrotti-Brown - Nov. 30, 2018
"This dense purple-colored wine reveals notes of charcoal, subtle toast and white chocolate, as well as aromas of blueberry and blackberry liqueur, mixed with hints of graphite and licorice. Concentrated, full-bodied, unctuously textured, long and fleshy, it offers impressive substance and a silky texture, yet is already approachable. However, I suspect its best years lie at least 5-7 years ahead. It should keep for at least two decades.
Robert M. Parker, Jr. - Dec. 23, 2011
"Part of the Bernard Magrez empire, this blend of 61% Merlot, 35% Cabernet Sauvignon and the rest Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc is one of the lovely surprises of the 2012 vintage. Its superb dense ruby/purple color, aromas of ripe blackcurrant and black cherry, supple tannins, medium to full body and seductive, persistent finish make this an impressive wine that should drink well for 10 to 15 years. It's already affordable. It's another wine that proved much better in bottle than in barrel tasting."
