"This wine stands out as a sensational achievement, only a few years from full maturity. A blend of equal parts Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, it reveals powerful aromas of scorched earth and smoky barbecue, accompanied by hints of blueberry, black raspberry and blackcurrant. The palate is full-bodied, flavorful, with a broad texture and full feel, while retaining remarkable purity and vivacity. Tannins are still present, but soft and perfectly integrated. This wine should reach full maturity in a year or two, and keep beautifully for at least another twenty years."

"After tasting it four times in Bordeaux, giving it the perfect score three times and 99 the fourth, I can say that this final blend of 51% Merlot, 47.5% Cabernet Sauvignon and 1.5% Petit Verdot represents perfection in the bottle. With 14.5% natural alcohol, it was produced in 8,000 cases. Its sublime elegance, power, medium to full-bodied texture, silky tannins and subtle notes of smoke, pencil shavings, blackcurrant, charcoal, camphor, blueberry and blackcurrant fruit are remarkable. It's a rich, intense wine, but the elegance and great terroir of Pape Clément shine through. It is slightly more evolved than the 2005 at the same stage, but needs another 5-7 years to develop further nuances, which it certainly will. This wine can be kept for 30 to 40 years or more.
